This week at our 27 week ultrasound our doctor told us what every parent dreads. There is something wrong with our baby. Our family has been through so much in this last year, with loosing our precious baby girl Alyssa to prematurity, and the recent car accident that has turned our lives upside down. Our strength has been in knowing soon we will have our son here with us and things are going to get better.
At this time we know the basics. David has a heart defect called Double Outlet Right Ventricle. He will have to have open heart surgery, and possible multiple surgeries to correct it.
What Is It?
Double Outlet Right Ventricle is a congenital heart defect in which both the aorta and the pulmonary artery exit from the right ventricle. In the normal heart, the aorta leaves the left ventricle and the pulmonary artery leaves the right ventricle.
In addition, there is a large ventricular septal defect (VSD), or hole in the muscle wall (septum) that separates the right and left ventricles.
We are also having an MRI done today. My sweet baby also has fluid around his brain, and his spine is curved with scoliosis. The fluid on the brain is what's concerning, but on a positive note when we had our 18 week ultrasound his brain was forming perfect! The MRI will tell us if there is any damage, and if it is severe we might have to deliver him early to help him get the fluid out. How that will be done is still up in the air until after the MRI.
I also am going to be seeing a pediatric cardiologist next week who will start coordinating everything.
The doctor recommended we move to Kansas City as soon as we can. This is where I would have to deliver David (the doctors here are unable to treat him) and where he would be in the children's hospital. If we stayed here there are lots of bad outcomes that she went through with us, including David not recieving the care he needs in time.
Because of the car accident we are in a horrible financial situation, as a lot of people are right now. I've set up a DONATE button on this page for those who would like to help. Most of all we need PRAYERS!
I will update this page with all new info from now until Baby David is home with us healthy!

We are praying for you and for David.
I'm so sorry to hear about these recent developments. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
So, you are moving from LA to Kansas?? Did I read that right somewhere??
I am curious.. I thought LA had great surgeons... and then there is Stanford...?
Maybe I need to read more... huh?
Be sure to try to sign up for Katie Beckett... it will help to cover your out of pocket medical expenses which add up quickly..
the social worker in the hospital should help you out w/ that stuff...
